RG03-23 (over/under)
sweetgrass, waxed linen thread, found stone. 10” x 6” x 4”
This piece continues the exploration of what constitutes inside and outside. For most of what we call basket, there is a clear interior space that provides functionality. With this “folded” weaving, inside and outside are treated equally, the only marked difference is the stitching.
The square-ish stone is as it was found on a Maine beach. The unique shape is what drew me to it and sets the stage for this work. In the end, I appreciate the resulting contrasts both organic and geometric, as well as the color and texture contrasts.
