New Open Weave Basketry

In preparation for an Open Weave Basket class I taught at MECA+D (the Maine College of Art + Design) in Portland in September 2024, I made these baskets. Making these gave me samples to share with the students, and also re-familiarized my hands with the making of this type and method of basketry. I made three semi-nesting pairs for a total of 6 examples.
This method of basketry is fairly easy to learn and offers infinite sizes and shapes. They are great for holding fruit and vegetables as the open weave allows air to circulate freely. All are made from No.3 round reed.
