Christmas Ornaments
White Paper, 1.75" x 1.5" round
B&W Paper, 2" x 2.5" x 2" (to top of handle)
Initially, I made these two small baskets simply to use up some extra material I had lying around. These 'scraps' didn't want to be thrown away, and so they became what you see here. Using a simple weave, and handles also made of paper, the two baskets found their way onto our Christmas Tree.
During the process, I discovered that a bit of glue is a great tool. As a weaving material, paper doesn't have the same ability to stick to itself that other materials have; these others actually hold themselves in place while one weaves...paper doesn't do this. And so a dot of glue carefully placed holds the weavers in place, thereby allowing for continuous weaving.
I am intrigued by these smaller baskets. Their change in scale forces one to reconsider the form as well as the space held by the basket.
